The second production line at the Nangerd ballast mine in Ashtian County, Markazi Province, was opened in the presence of the provincial governor, deputies for civil and economic affairs, the Ashtian governor and provincial managers. IRIB News reported the opening.
Supply to the south, west and centre
The governor said the line would supply at least 250,000 tonnes of ballast a year for maintenance of railway lines in the south, west and centre of the country. The report links that supply to safer track, lower cost and shorter possession times.
Rail loading at the mine
Direct connection of the mine site to the rail network is expected to raise regional freight tonnage. Wagons will be loaded at the mine without interrupting work at Nangerd station.
Employment and the mine
Zandieh Vakili said the project supports steady jobs and railway revenue, and raises the share of rail in moving mineral products. Nangerd is described as the country's largest ballast mine, used in roads, railways, dams, bridges and building work.
