Origin and processing are different descriptions
Natural gravel is recovered from a deposit whose particles have a geological transport and weathering history. Crushed gravel describes processing and may itself be produced by crushing oversized natural particles. The labels therefore do not identify two universally separate source materials. Fractured faces, angularity, overall form and surface texture are distinct properties. A particle can have fractured surfaces and still be flat or elongated. Engineering suitability depends on the intended concrete, pavement or drainage application, together with grading, cleanliness, durability and construction conditions. A fair comparison controls or records these variables instead of attributing every performance difference to the product label. Representative sampling and clearly identified test methods are essential. This guide explains how to read the evidence, why washing is not complete approval, and how stockpiling and transport can change the condition delivered to a project.
