English technical overview

Flaky, elongated and angular are not interchangeable descriptions. A particle may be thin, long, both, or relatively equidimensional while retaining fractured faces. Shape affects arrangement and contact within aggregate, but material strength, grading, cleanliness and placement also matter. The Persian guide distinguishes length, width and thickness, explains why a single photograph cannot establish a three-dimensional index, and discusses representative sampling and mass-based reporting. EN 933-3 addresses flakiness, EN 933-4 addresses shape index, ASTM D4791 has its own classifications, and historical BS elongation methods must not be blended with them. An explicitly hypothetical calculation illustrates why particle counts and mass percentages differ. Project requirements determine the applicable method and acceptance criteria. Photographs from the existing mine collection illustrate appearance only; they are not test evidence or a numerical declaration of conformity.
