Start with traceability
A ballast laboratory report describes an identified sample tested by a specified method. It does not by itself certify every production batch or the safety of an entire railway. Check product identity, sampling location, dates, method edition, units and the connection to the delivery being assessed.
Interpret each property separately
Grading, Los Angeles degradation, Micro-Deval loss, absorption, density and particle-shape indices answer different questions. Compare results only with the applicable project criteria and method. A low percentage is not universally better, and results from different methods are not automatically interchangeable. Hypothetical numerical examples in the Persian guide are teaching exercises, not Nangerd test results.
