Rock names begin the assessment

Basalt, andesite, granite and other rock sources may be investigated for ballast, subject to project requirements. A geological family is not an automatic approval. Weathering, alteration, fabric, pores and discontinuities can vary within a source, so identified samples and production controls are needed.

Source rock and finished product

Crushing and screening influence particle shape and grading but cannot automatically remove every limitation of the source rock. Tests on the finished product complement geological assessment. Nangerd identifies andesite as its source material; published results should be read with their sample identity, method and project acceptance criteria. The Persian guide examines the distinction in detail.
